REV. D. W. WENGER

Word was received at Wakarusa, Ind., of the death of the Rev. David W. Wenger, 63, of near Orrville, Ohio, Thursday, July 31. He had been ill for six weeks from cancer.

He was born March 8, 1884, near Wakarusa, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel S. Wenger. He married Elsie Lehman of Orrville Nov. 20, 1912; she died March 22, 1924.

In January, 1926, he married Ida Landis of Wooster, Ohio, who survives. Other survivors include three brothers. Enos of Goshen, Samuel of New Paris, and Phares of Wakarusa; and two sisters, Mrs. Eli Zimmerman of Goshen, and Mrs. Joseph Ressler, Massillon, Ohio.

Services were to be held Sunday afternoon at the County Line church near Orrville, with burial in Martin cemetery there. The deceased was a member of Wisler Mennonite church, Wakarusa.

Surviving in addition to the widow are four sons, Levi F., Noah J. and Ora. J., all of Shipshewana, and Menno S. of Topeka; four daughters, Mrs. Elmer Murray of Gasport, N. Y., Mrs. Adam Burkholder of Pettisville, Ohio; Mrs. Aaron Albright of Middlebury and Mrs. Troyer; a half brother, Jacob Hershberger of Middlebury; a half sister, Mrs. Jacob Miller of Topeka, and 56 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Troyer home, and at 2:30 at the Forks church. The Rev. Earley C. Bontrager and Oscar Hostetler officiated, with burial in Bontrager cemetery.

FINAL SERVICES FOR OHIO MINISTER

Orville, Ohio. — Funeral services were held at the Chestnut Ridge church near here on Sunday, Aug. 3, for Min. David Wenger, the minister at the church for many yeas who passed away after being ill for some time.

A congregation of around 600 gathered at the church to pay last respects to Min. Wenger, who was 61 years of age. he was well-known for his long and useful ministry in the Old order (Wisler) Mennonite church.

DAVID W. WENGER

David W. Wenger, son of Samuel S. and Rebecca (Weaver) Wenger, was born in St. Joseph county, Ind., on March 8, 1884, and died July 31, 1947, age 63 years, four months and 21 days.

During his illness of five weeks he filled his place in church services without fail. He bore his illness with patience and courage, putting his trust in a divine power. His attitude was, “Nor my will but thine be done.”

He came to Ohio in 1910 and was married to Elsie Lehman of Burton on Nov. 20, 1912. She preceded him in death in March 1924. He was ordained to the ministry for the Chestnut Ridge and County Line churches on Sept. 5, 1916, serving in this capacity for nearly 31 years.

On January 17, 1926, he was united in marriage to Ida Landis, daughter of William and Sarah Landis, in the vicinity of Wooster, at which place they resided until 1933.

He is survived by his wife, Ida, three brothers, Samuel, Enos and Phares of Goshen, ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Eli Zimmerman of Goshen and Mrs. Joe Ressler of Massillon, Ohio. He was preceded in death by to brothers, John and Noah, and one sister, Emma.

His passing leaves a large vacancy in the home, in the church and in the community.
