Mrs. John P. Welty

Mrs. Anna Bixler Welty was born on the farm of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Bixler, Sr., on Dec. 9, 1862, and terminated her earthly career on Thursday, Feb. 2, 1933, aged 70 years, 1 month, 23 days. An even dozen children were born to her parents and eleven of them grew up and all established families. She joined the Sonnenberg church during her girlhood and remained a faithful member to the end. Being the oldest of the girls it is evident that she, while quite young, had to help in the caring for the rapidly increasing family and as her sisters were old enough to help, it was again her lot to work for others. This work she performed very faithfully, as the writer knows from experience as she worked for his mother for some time. On Dec. 31, 1893, she was married to John P. Welty. Parentage was withheld from them, though she was a great favorite with children. Her congenial nature won her friends wherever she was. Mr. and Mrs. Welty returned to this place last November after spending about one year with her sister Barbara, the Albert E. Loganbills in Texas. Disposing of their little home southeast of Kidron at the home Mathies Gerber had purchased of Mr. Brodbeck, they rented the former Deacon Jacob Moser house in Dav. J. Moser's house-yard. It seems as if she had a foreboding. She was really sick when the day of moving came but she got out of bed and insisted that they move. How much better she could be taken care of so near a sister and family.

Surviving her are the grief stricken husband,two brothers, Dan J. Bixler, Route 4, Dalton; David of near Excelsior, Mo., Elizabeth, Mrs. Dan S. Amstutz; Sarah, Mrs. Wm. I. Gerber; Barbara, Mrs. A. E. Loganbill, Mission, Texas, and Lina, Mrs. Dav. J. Moser. Preceding her was the oldest of the family, John who died while young; Mary, Mrs. Joel S. Amstutz, died in 1921; in March 3, 1930, Mattie, Mrs. John C. Gerber died; Jacob Bixler followed May 3, and Fanny, Mrs. Simon S. Amstutz, May 15 — the three only a little over two months apart. Funeral was held Sunday forenoon. The local minister of the church conducted the services. Relatives and friends from a distance attending were: Adam and Abraham Bixel, John Schneck of Pandora, Ohio, Frank Bixler of Wadsworth and the Dan D. Bixler family near there; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Tschantz of Canton, Herman Moser of Columbus, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Kirchhofer of Massillon, and a number of others. People did not stand around visiting as in warm weather but struck out for home. — Contributed.
