Highway Crash Near Carlsbad, N. M. Takes Lives of Two Indiana Couples

Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Jess Chupp, ages 66 and 50, Millersburg couple killed in a highway accident near Carlsbad, N. M., were held Saturday forenoon, July 20, at the Pleasant Grove Conservative Church. Officiating ministers were Rev. Clarence Yoder and Rev. Menno Schrock.

In the afternoon of the same day funeral services were held at the Dan P. Borntrager residence for Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Weirich, 66 and 64-year-old Shipshewana couple also killed in the New Mexico crash. The Weirich services were in charge of Rev. Levi Yoder, Rev. Eli D. Miller and Bishop John Troyer.

Fifth victim in the two-car collision was Julian Dominguez, 20, of Carlsbad.

The Chupps and Weirichs were on a three-week trip to visit relatives and friends in Texas, California and Oregon. Exact cause of the head-on crash July 15, under good driving conditions during a sunny afternoon, has not been determined. Investigating officers said both cars were over the center line of the highway at the point of impact.

The Chupps are survived by 11 children and step-children and the Weirichs by nine children.
