MARIA WEINBRENNER

Our beloved mother Maria (Schmidt) Weinbrenner, daughter of Heinrich and Helena Loewens Schmidt, was born Dec. 9, 1872, in Fuersten-Werder, South Russia. In 1875 as a young child she emigrated with her parents to the United States and settled in Marion county, Kans. south of Lehigh. Here she received her elementary education.

In 1891 she was baptized upon confession of her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour by Elder Jacob Buller and received as a member into the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church, whose faithful member she remained until her death.

May 1, 1903, mother and father were united in holy matrimony. They were permitted to share life’s joys and sorrows for 47 years, six months and 22 days. This union was blessed with five children, two sons and three daughters of whom one son and one daughter preceded her in death in their infancy.

In April 1921 when the widow of Otto Smith died and left five orphans the parents gave one of the children, Elmer, a home. He was received into their home at the age of five and made his home with them 13 years.

Mother enjoyed fairly good health until the declining years when arthritis caused her much pain, and along with it other complications set in. In April 1950 the parents entered the home for the aged at Goessel, Kans. where they received the best of care. On Nov. 23, 1950, our dear father passed to his heavenly reward. Mother felt the loss very keenly and she too had a great desire to be taken to her heavenly home.

She was a widow one year and 16 days. On Nov. 18, 1951, she had a stroke which caused her to be bedfast for the remaining days of her life. On Dec. 8, pneumonia set in and the doctor advised to take her to the Bethesda hospital where all the necessary medical care was given her, but she passed away early Sunday morning, Dec. 9, the day of her birthday. She reached the age of 79 years.

She leaves to mourn her departure her children: Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Schmidt and family of Hillsboro, Kans., Mr. and Mrs. Albert Weinbrenner and family of Lehigh, Kans. and Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Unruh and family of Hillsboro, Kans.; 11 grandchildren, one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Weinbrenner of Hillsboro, Kans.

Now that both of our parents have departed it leaves a vacancy that only the Lord can heal. We are sad and our hearts ache because of the passing of mother, but rejoice in the faith that she now is seeing what she believed. So we say “Good Night” here and by the grace of god “Good Morning” over there.

“Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” Rev. 15:13.

Funeral services were conducted Dec. 12 in the Bethesda home for aged at Goessel, Kans. and at the Alexanderwohl church by the pastor of the church, Rev. Philip A. Wedel.
