JACOB B. WEDEL

Jacob B. Wedel, son of Benjamin and Susanna Wedel, was born in McPherson county, Kans. on Feb. 7, 1882, and passed away at his home near Galva, Kans. on May 28, 1954, reaching the age of 72 years, three months and 21 days. Death was caused by a heart attack.

He received his education and grew to manhood in McPherson county, where he also lived as a farmer most of his life with the exception of 12 years when he lived on a farm near Newton.

On July 28, 1908, he was united in marriage to Susanna Buller. This union was blessed with 10 children. They shared joys and sorrows for 45 years and 10 months.

In 1914 he was converted and on May 17 was baptized upon confession of faith into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, remaining a faithful member unto the end. He has been a kind father and a loving husband. He had a deep concern for his family, and his loving heart for children endeared him especially to his grandchildren.

About eight years ago his health began to fail. The strain of ill health overtaxed his heart so that he was not able to regain his former strength. This spring he was afflicted with virus pneumonia, reducing his strength still more, in spite of medical aid and hospital care.

Realizing his departure might be at hand, he made full consecration to the Lord, God bearing witness with fullness of grace. His last evening was spent visiting with company. After the evening prayer, just before retiring, he was moved to offer another special prayer in which he made a complete committal of all his cares and himself to God. After prayer he made the comment, “Whatsoever God now does is well done,” and then at 10:30 he suddenly passed away.

He leaves to mourn his sudden departure his sorrowing companion; nine children, Alpha and Ella (Mrs. Albert Becker) of Galva, Alvin of Burns, Orpha of Canton, Frieda (Mrs. Jesse Becker) of Gypsum, Martha (Mrs. Alton Koehn) of Halstead, Milford and Marvin of Newton, and Brinton of Tonganoxie, Kans.; three sons-in-law, six daughters-in-law, 33 grandchildren, two sisters, and a host of relatives and friends. His parents, four sisters, three brothers, one son Eldon Ray, who died at the age of 18 years, and two grandchildren preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday forenoon, June 1, 1954 at the Lone Tree Mennonite church. Min. Frank Unruh brought the message, speaking from Heb. 11:1; Heb. 10:38 and John 11:11. Burial was made in the nearby cemetery. — Mother and Children.
