— Funeral services for Joseph J Wedel, 55, a native of Moundridge and resident of Newton for the past 11 years, took place Tuesday afternoon at the Eden Mennonite church. Rev. Peter J. Dyck in charge. Mr. Wedel, who had operated a Swedish message clinic here after retiring from the farm passed away at the Home on East Broadway Saturday evening. Jul. 5. He leaves his wife, the former Lena Stucky, two daughters, Mrs. Velma Guhr and Mrs. Dorothy Tieszen of Newton; one son Harvey of Moundridge; two brothers, three sisters, and 10 grandchildren.

JOSEPH J. WEDEL

Joseph J. Wedel, youngest son of Jacob and Anna Stucky Wedel, was born Febr. 5, 1897, in his parental home near Moundridge, Kansas. He attended the Pleasant Ridge school until in the fall of 1906 he moved with his parents to Upland, Calif., where the family lived for about three years. Upon returning to Kansas he finished his public school training in the Pleasant Ridge school in 1914.

He was baptized upon confession of faith in his Redeemer Jesus Christ Dec. 1, 1912, and united with the Hopefield Mennonite church near Moundridge, Kansas.

In 1928 he transferred his membership to the Eden Mennonite church where he retained it until his death.

He was united in marriage to Lena Stucky Jan. 16, 1916. This union was blessed with two daughters and one son. They were permitted to enjoy life's joys and sorrows for over 36 years.

He spent 25 years of his life on a farm at Moundridge and Walton and moved to Newton to take up the chiropractic profession for which he was especially gifted. His life was greatly enricher as he served the people and made many friends.

The life of the departed also contained many joys and sorrows. Already early in life he lost his mother. Again in the latter years of his life he suffered much sickness and pain. New Year’s Eve he suffered a heart attack and seemingly was unable to regain the necessary strength. Consequently added complications came because of his weakened condition and he passed to his reward July 5 at 10:00 p.m.

His last days of life were spent in a great deal of suffering but in great trust and faith in his Saviour Jesus Christ. He leaned on so the promises of the Lord. “All things work together for good to them that love God.” In the last of hours he especially admonished his family, expressing his to meet them all in glory-land.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his faithful wife Lena, two daughters and one son, Velma, Mrs. John Guhr, Newton, Kans., Dorothy, Mrs. Charles Tieszen, Newton, Kans., Harvey of Moundridge, Kans., two sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law; ten grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. His parents, three sisters and two brothers preceded in him in death.

Rev. 21:7, “He that overcometh shall inherit all things and I will be his God and he shall be my son.”

Funeral services were held at the home at 1002 E. Broadway, July 8, at 1:00 p.m. where Rev. Peter Dyck gave a short sermon. A duet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Hilmer Voth sang "Jesus Blessed Jesus” and “Beyond the Sunset.” At 2:30 p.m. services were held at the Eden Mennonite church with a Rev. Peter J. Dyck and Rev. Phil A. Wedel officiating. The men’s chorus of the Eden church sang “Beautiful Land," "The Many Mansions,” “Bloom Brightly Sweet Rose.” Organist was Mrs. Harold Schrag. Casket bearers were Lloyd Wedel, Milt Wedel, Phil Goering, Fred Gehring, Ed Krehbiel, Jr., Martin, J. P. Goering. Interment was made in the Eden cemetery. — Mrs. Joe Wedel and Family.
