Unglücksfall Dienstag, den 12 August fuhr Br. Joh. Wedel, Sohn des Joh. Wedel, früher wohnhaft in Waldheim, mit seinem Arbeiter aufs Feld, mit der Haspelmaschine Getreide zu mähen. Nachdem er etliche male um das Feld herumgefahren war, scheuten die Pferde und sprangen zur Seite. Diese hatte zur Folge, daß beide von ihrem Sitze herunterstürzten; der Arbeiter rücklings, doch Br. Wedel vor die Messer der Maschine, worauf ihm der linke Arm mit einem Stück von der Brust fast ganz abgeschnitten wurde. Außerdem erhielt er noch etliche Verletzungen am Kopf, sowie drei klaffende Wunden an einem Bein. Der Arbeiter, der sogleich herbeigeeilt kam, rief ihn beim Namen, erhielt aber keine Antwort, doch war noch Leben in ihm. Mittlerweile waren die Pferde, durch das Verliegen der Kurbelstange gehemmt, stehen geblieben; was der Arbeiter benutzte, ein Pferd ausspannte und schnell zum Dorfe ritt, Hilfe zu holen, doch zu spät, man fand den Verunglückten nur als Leiche. Sein Alter hat er gebracht auf 45 Jahre und etliche Monate. Seine Gattin ist ihm vor zwei Jahren vorangegangen. Der Verunglückte hinterläßt 3 Kinder. Der Schmerz ist groß. Wenn sich jeder doch täglich früge: Wer weiß wie nahe mir mein Ende, hin geht die Zeit, her kommt der Tod, ach wie so schnelle und behende, kann kommen meine Todesnot? Ein Leser. English translation:

Accident Tuesday, August 12, brother Johann Wedel, son of Johann Wedel, formerly residing in Waldheim, went with his worker to the field to mow grain with the reel machine. After he had driven around the field several times, the horses shied and jumped to the side. This resulted in both of them falling from their seats; the worker backwards, but brother Wedel in front of the blades of the machine, whereupon his left arm was almost completely cut off along with a piece of his chest. He also received several injuries to the head, as well as three gaping wounds on one leg. The worker, who immediately rushed over, called him by name, but received no answer, but there was still life in him. In the meantime, the horses had stopped, inhibited by the removal of the connecting rod, which the worker used to unharness a horse, and quickly rode to the village to get help; but too late, the victim was found only as a corpse. He reached the age of 45 years and several months. His wife preceded him two years ago. The deceased leaves behind 3 children. The pain is great. If only everyone could think every day: Who knows how near my end is, time is passing, death is coming, oh how quickly can my mortal need come? A reader. Der Herr spricht wieder einmal eine besondere Sprache zu uns. Den 12. August vormittags durchlief unsere Ansiedlung die Schreckenskunde: „Joh. Wedel, Köppental ist tot.“ (Die spezielle Mitteilung davon siehe Nr. 35 [sic: 36].... Nikolaipol, bei Aulie-Ata, 22. August

English translation:

Once again the Lord is speaking a special language to us. On the morning of August 12, the horrible news passed through our settlement: "Johann Wedel of Koeppental is dead." (For the special notice of this, see No. 35. [sic: 36]).... August 22, Nikolaipol, near Aulie-Ata.

Am 12. August fuhr Br. Joh. Wedel, Nikolaipol, Turkestan, früher Waldheim, aufs Feld, um mit der Haspelmaschine zu mähen. Die Pferde scheuten und Br. W. fiel vor die Messer, worauf ihm der linke Arm mit einem Stück von der Brust abgeschnitten wurde. Am Kopf und Bein hatte er drei klaffende Wunden. Die Pferde standen bald und der Knecht spannte eins aus und ritt schnell ins Dorf, Hilfe zu holen. Zu spät — man fand den lieben Bruder als Leiche! Er ist 45 Jahre alt geworden. Seine Gattin starb vor zwei Jahren. Drei Kinder beweinen der herben Verlust.

English translation:

On August 12, brother Johann Wedel of Nikolaipol, Turkestan, formerly of Waldheim, went to the field to mow with the reel machine. The horses shied and brother Wedel fell in front of the knives, whereupon his left arm was cut off along with a piece of his chest. He had three gaping wounds on his head and leg. The horses soon stood and the servant unhitched one and rode quickly to the village to get help. Too late - they found the dear brother as a corpse! He reached the age of 45 years. His wife died two years ago. Three children mourn the bitter loss.
