text of obituary:
The Review staff was shocked when informed Wednesday, June 7, that Jacob A. Wedel, 67, a long-time director in the Herald Publishing Co. and board president since the February annual meeting, had died unexpectedly at 9:30 that morning in the Halstead Hospital.
A patient at the hospital since Monday, he was awaiting surgery when he suffered a sudden heart attack.
He lived all his life at Moundridge, where he was active in farming, and was connected with various community interests. In later years he became extensively involved in numerous inter-Mennonite enterprises, especially in matters pertaining to mutual aid. He was general secretary of the Mennonite Hilfs-Plan Association and a member of Mennonite Indemnity Inc. of Akron, Pa., a re-insurance organization which he helped organize. In church as in business, his judgment and friendly counsel was sought and respected.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie, one son, Ronald and his wife Florene, two grandsons, Duane and Dwight; three brothers and three sisters and their families.
Baptized on Oct. 21, 1917, he was an active member of the Eden Mennonite Church near Moundridge. Funeral services were held there Friday afternoon, conducted by Dr. H. A. Fast of North Newton, the interim pastor. Many out-of-state representatives of organizations in which he had served in some official capacity or was a participating member attended.
The detailed obituary will be published next week.
