Kansas Farmer Dies of Accident Injuries

E. P. WEDEL OF GALVA FATALLY HURT WHEN TRUCKS COLLIDE

McPherson, Kan. — Eben P. Wedel, 64-year-old farmer of the Galva community, died at 6:30 a.m. Monday morning, July 13 at the Salem Hospital in Hillsboro of injuries received in a pick-up truck collision on June 27.

Mr. Wedel was driving one of the trucks when it collided with a truck driven by Wesley Duerksen norhwest of Lehigh. Duerksen and two sons were injured but have recovered.

Born July 28, 1895 in McPherson County, Mr.Wedel leaves his wife, Julia; two daughters, Mrs. Elgin Bartel of Hillsboro and Mrs. Chester Koehn of Moundridge; one son, Gerald Wedel of Newton; one brother and eight sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 14 in the Ball and son Chapel in McPherson, followed by services in the Emmanuel Mennonite Church at 10 a.m. Rev. Garman H. Wedel and Rev. P. A. Wedel will officiate.

EBEN P. WEDEL

Eben P. Wedel, son of Peter C. and Helena Wedel, was born July 28, 1895, on a farm southwest of McPherson, Kan., the community where he attended his church, the public school, and later attended the preparatory school at Hillsboro. The major part of his life was spent in the Galva community. On Nov. 19, 1916, he was united in marriage to Julia Schroeder at Hillsboro, a happy and congenial union that existed for over 43 years.

On May 31, 1914, Eben was baptized upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his savior and was received into the fellowship of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church and later transferred his membership to the Emmanuel Mnenonite [sic Mennonite] church of Moundridge, of which he had remained a member. He had engaged in farming for many years. His untimely passing, which came at the Salem hospital of Hillsboro on Monday morning, July 11, 1960, was caused by a car accident on June 27, 1960. Preceding him in death were an infant daughter, one sister and five brothers.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Julia of the home in Galva; two daughters, Mrs. Elgin Bartel of Hillsboro, and Mrs. Chester Koehn of Moundridge; his son, Gerald Wedel of Newton; five grandsons, eight sisters, one brother, other relatives and many friends.

Eben Wedel was a home loving husband, father and grandfather. He also loved children and had enjoyed the fellowship of his grandsons. His life was marked with sincerity, honesty, and hard work with great love for his Creator and the great outdoors. Mr. Wedel leaves a noble heritage to his family and will be missed by his many friends.

The funeral was held at the Emmanuel Mennonite church on July 14, with Rev. Garman H. Wedel and Rev. P. A. Wedel officiating.
