BENJAMIN WEDEL
Benjamin Wedel, son of Andrew and Lena Koehn Wedel, was born in McPherson, Kan. on May 22, 1883. He died Sunday evening, May 5, 1963, in the McPherson County Hospital, reaching the age of 79 years, 11 months and 12 days.
On Dec. 5, 1914 he was married to Carrie Koehn. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for over 48 years and were blessed with four daughters.
The first few years of their married life they lived in Durham where Ben worked in the garage. Later they moved to Moundridge where he worked in the Ford garage for a number of years. Later they moved to a farm north of Moundridge. Here he took up farming and did blacksmith and machinist work. Later he and his wife moved to a farm northeast of Durham, where he also did blacksmith work.
In 1958 and suffered a stroke and had to retire. On April 22, 1963 he fell and broke his hip, which resulted in his death.
He leaves to mourn his sudden departure, his wife, four daughters, Mary, Mrs. Henry Unruh of Durham, Elizabeth, Mrs. Lee Roy Becker of Galva, Susie, Mrs. Leland Good [sic Goad], and Mrs. Lena Wishom [sic Williams] of McPherson; 13 grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Pete Wedel of Colorado, Henry Wedel of Syracuse, Kan., Mrs. Peggy Becker of Hutchinson, Kan., and Mrs. Kadie [sic Katie] Schmidt of Colorado.
Funeral services were held May 8 at the Durham High School Auditorium with Rev. Robert Grout officiating. Burial was made at the Durham Park cemetery.
