Ontario Truck Driver Killed When Pinned In Flaming Wreckage

Stratford, Ontario. — Leonard J. Weber, 32, of Waterloo died when pinned in the flaming wreckage of the Superior Sanitation Services truck he was driving on Highway 7 near here Feb. 2.

The truck, with a load of chicken feathers used for fire-preventative foam on airport runways, crashed into a 15-foot culvert excavation project and caught fire. It is believed diesel fuel spilled from the tank over the cab.

It was nearly four hours before the driver's body could be removed from the cab. Identification was based on surgical pins in his leg, which had once been fractured.

Besides his parents, Mr. Wiebe is survived by his wife and two daughters, Lorie, 3, and Lisa, 1. He was a member of the Erb Street Mennonite Church, Waterloo, where funeral services were held Feb. 6.
