JOSEPH MUSSER WEBER

Joseph Musser Weber was born on Nov. 18, 1876, in Berks County, Pa. near Allegheny Mennonite Church, which marks the spot of the historic settlement of the Mennonites in the county in 1722. He was the eighth child of the late Henry Gehman Weber and Elizabeth Musser Webber.

He found his life companion in the Bowmansville Mennonite Church in Lancaster Co., Pa., in the person of Sis. Mary L. Horst. She was buried Aug. 6, 1926, and Bro. Weber was left alone with five young daughters. However they joined together faithfully to make the home of their father, a widower for 36 years, a most congenial and happy home.

His five daughters are Lizzie, wife of Barton B. Gehman, minister in the Landisville, Pa. congregation, Lena, wife of Harvey Zoll of Farmersville, Pa.; Barbara, who formerly served at the Welsh Mt. Samaritan Home and later at the La Junta, Colo. Hospital; Luella, and Anna Mae, both active Sunday school teachers. With the latter three their beloved father lived. They cherished him most tenderly in his declining years. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, one sister, Anna, wife of Henry L. Gehman of Mohnton, Pa.

He accepted Christ as his personal Saviour in early youth, was baptized on confession of faith on Nov. 2, 1895, by Bishop Jacob N. Brubaker and fellowshipped with the Bowmansville Mennonite congregation for 67 years as a faithful follower of christ and loyal member of the church. He was the oldest member of the Bowmansfille circuit of 518 members. He reached the age of 85 years, four months, and three days.

Memorial services were held on March 24 in the Bowmansville Mennonite meetinghouse. Interment was in the burial ground close by. Officiating were Moses G. Gehman, Benjamin F.Weaver, Paul Z. Martin and Bishop Howard Z. Good.
