One Killed, Six Injured As Car & Truck Collide

ACCIDENT IN LANCASTER COUNTY, PA. FATAL TO VERNA MAE WEAVER, 17

Lancaster, Pa. — The Lancaster County Mennonite community was saddened recently by the fatal car-truck collision which claimed the life of Verna Mae Weaver, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin M. Weaver, East Earl. Lucy Martin, 18, daughter of Harvey Martins, one of six persons injured in the crash, remains in critical condition.

Funeral services for Miss Weaver were held Aug. 29 at the Weaverland Mennonite church, and were largely attended.

The Weaver girl, driver of the car carrying five other women home from work at a New Holland factory, was instantly killed when the car crashed into the side of an oncoming delivery truck in Blue Ball. The crash occurred when she turned out to pass another truck which had slowed to turn into a driveway.

Others injured, were Mrs. Anna Arment, Mrs. Martin Weaver, Patricia Messner, and Ruth Frey, all of East Earl. LeRoy Reitz of Ephrata, driver of the truck, was slightly injured.

Surviving members of the Weaver family are the parents, three brothers and one sister, and grandparents, Joseph M. Weaver and John and Annie Good.
