24-Year-Old Father Killed When Truck Cab Plunges75 Feet
Ephrata, Pa. — Funeral services were held at the Ephrata Mennonite Church on Nov. 4 for Harold E. Weaver, 24-year-old father of one who was killed in a spectacular truck accident in Philadelphia.
Driver of the large tractor-trailer, 24-year-old Victor Esch, Jr. of New Holland, was reported slightly improved in a Philadelphia Hospital. He was in critical condition with a fractured hip, head and internal injuries.
The refrigerated truck owned by Victor Weaver, Inc., New Holland poultry dealer, went into a skid on a Schuylkill Expressway overpass during a rain storm. It crossed the opposite lane of traffic and crashed through a railing. The cab carrying the two men was torn off and plunged to the railroad tracks 75 feet below.
Mr. Weaver was a member of Carpenters Mennonite Church and only recently completed his two years of 1-W service in a general hospital. He is survived by his wife, the former Emma Hess; a year-old son, Calvin Eugene; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hershey Weaver of Lititz, three brothers and one sister.
