JACOB PETER WARKENTIN

Jacob Peter Warkentin was born March 20, 1913 in Tschongrau, Crimea, Russia. He accepted Jesus as his Saviour in his teenage years, and shortly after lost his left hand in an accident. After the accident he worked as an accountant.

In 1935 he married Maria Warkentin. During the war they fled to Poland and then to Germany. Here he served the Lord through the ministry of music and preaching of the word to the refugees, while at the same time helping in the reunion of scattered families.

He and his family arrived in Vineland, Ont. in 1948 and later moved to St. Catharines, Ont.

In the St. Catharines church Mr. Warkentin worked for 25 years in various positions, such as Sunday school teacher, song leader, elder, member of various committees, and as chairman of the Grantham Avenue church building committee.

Heart and kidney failure forced him into etirement last year. On Sunday, November 10, at the age of 61, he went to meet his Redeemer and Lord.

Mr. Warkentin was predeceased by his parents, two sisters and one infant son. He leaves to mourn his wife, Maria; his sons Jacob, George, and Peter, all of St. Catharines; two daughters, Mrs. Ernie (Mary) Hildebrand of Jordan Station, Laura of Columbus, Ohio , Mrs. Rudy (Hilda) Braun of St. Catharines; Mrs. Brian (Margaret) Sweet of Brantford; Eleanor at home; two brothers and one sister in Russia, one brother and one sister in Brazil, and twelve grandchildren.

The funeral service was held in the Scott St. Church on November 12 with Rev. A. Block, and Rev. G. Epp officiating at the church and Rev. A. Schmidt at the cemetery.
