MRS. MARIA WARKENTIN

Maria Braun Warkentin, daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth Buller Braun, was born June 1, 1877 in Alexandrwohl, Russia. At the age of two years she came to America with her parents and settled on a farm near York, Neb. Later she moved with her parents to Joes, Colo. Here she found the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and on Dec. 3, 1893 she was baptized and united with the Mennonite Brethren Church.

On Jan. 28, 1902, she was united in holy matrimony with Henry Karl [sic Charles] Kusch. Through this act she assumed the responsibility of becoming the mother to three of his children. This union was further blessed with one daughter and two sons. One son, John, was killed at the age of 9.

In 1904 they moved to Kaddo [sic Caddo] County, Okla. and in 1930 to a farm near Perico, Texas. Here our father passed away on Jan. 22, 1931.

On May 27, 1934, she was united in holy matrimony to Henry A. Warkentin. They moved to Reedley, Calif., where they spent their remaining days. The last six years were spent in the Reedley Home for the Aged. Here her husband, Henry A. Warkentin, passed away a few months ago.

On Feb. 28, 1964, the Lord called her home to glory through an apparent heart attack. She reached the age of 86 years, six months and 27 days. The following remain to mourn her departure: three daughters, Mrs. Lillie Green of Santa Monica, Calif., Mrs. Manila Jost of Reedley, Mrs. Mary Morgan of Reedley, Calif.; two sons, William Kusch of Delano and Elmer Kusch of Reedley; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jacob Braun of Reedley; one sister, Mrs. Susie Warkentin of Dinuba; and many relatives and friends.

The memorial service was held in the Mennonite Brethren Church, Reedley, with Rev. Dan Friesen officiating. — The Family.
