KARL C. WARKENTIN
Karl C. Warkentin, son of Abraham and Matilda Hinz Warkentin, was born June 28, 1893, near Buhler, Kansas. Here he received his grammar school education and grew into young manhood. May 19, 1918, he was baptized upon the confession of his faith by Elder Abraham Ratzlaff and received into the membership of the Hopeview Mennonite church.
On November 25, 1915, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth A. Warkentin. to this union five children were born, two daughters and three sons, one of whom preceded him in death.
In 1930 he, with his family, moved to Dalhart, Texas, where they made their home for five years, then returning to Kansas. In 1937 he had the misfortune of losing his right hand which made it quite hard for him. In 1939 the family moved to California, where he spent the rest of his life. He transferred his church membership and united with the Christian fellowship of the First Mennonite church of Reedley, of which he remained an active and faithful member until the time of his departure.
For approximately 15 years he suffered with an ulcerated condition of the stomach, although it was some sort of heart complication that brought about his end. Due to severe suffering, he sought relief in every possible way and doctored with many specialists in various localities.
In the early hours of Monday morning, July 30, he was taken to the hospital because of a severe hemorrhage. His end came quietly and peacefully in the Reedley Hospital, Tuesday evening, July 31, 1945. he reached the age of 52 years, 1 month and 3 days. With the words, "Jesus, Jesus, I see you," he fell asleep and followed the summons into his heavenly home, where suffering and pain shall be no more.
He was a good husband and father, deeply concerned about his family, that they might live a sincere Christian life. Just before he left his home for the last time, he prayed earnestly that God would take care of the children and their mother, and that they might follow their Lord and master closely at all times.
His departure leaves to mourn, his deeply bereaved wife, two daughters, Mrs. Tillie Ellis and her husband Orval of Fort Bliss, Texas, and Mrs. Irma Toews and her husband, Pete of Reedley; two sons, La Vern and Allen of the home; four grandchildren, Jerraline DeAnn, and Ronald Toews, and Beverly Joan and Gary Wayne Ellis; four brothers, Herman of Shafter, Calif., Ted of Newton, Kansas, Julius and Albert, both of Buhler, Kans., four sisters, Hannah of Buhler, Mrs. Elizabeth Regier, or Burrton, Mrs. Emma Siemens and Mrs. Kathryn Regier, both of Buhler; his mother-in-law of Meade, Kansas, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday morning, Aug. 6, in the First Mennonite church, with Rev. P. K. Regier and Rev. John Richert officiating. Burial followed in the Reedley cemetery.
Jesus, Jesus I now see you,
With the vision of my soul,
What my heart has long felt true,
I shall find at life's great goal.
All life's suffering can't compare
With the glory now I see,
When the heavenly joy we share,
In the Home that is to be.
Jesus, Jesus, I now see you,
Glad to answer your last call;
Oh, how blessed now to view,
Him Who is my One and All.
Jesus, Jesus, I now see you,
And with rapture I behold,
What to mortal man is now
As heaven's portals us enfold.
