• John H. Warkentin, 96, a resident of the Bethel Home for Aged for the past 18 years, died at the Home Monday morning. A native of South Russia, he spent his boyhood in the Goessel community. He was married there in 1900 to Sarah Suderman, and she died in 1934. They resided at Geary, Okla. for a number of years. Survivors include two daughters, two sons, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at the Sister Frieda Memorial Chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday, with Rev. Arnold Epp in charge. The body will then be taken to Geary for final services and burial at the Geary Mennonite Church on Friday afternoon.

JOHN H. WARKENTIN

John H. Warkentin, son of Jacob and Katherine Warkentin, was born Jan. 17, 1869 in Altenau, South Russia. He died in the Bethel Home for the Aged, Newton, Kan., on Feb.22, 1965, reaching the age of over 95 years.

In 1875 the family immigrated to the U. S. A. where they settled on a farm near Goessel, Kan. Here John spent his boyhood years. In 1896 he was married to Ida Brillhart, who died three years later.

On Nov.11, 1900 he married Sarah Suderman. This union was blessed with four children, two boys and two girls, all of whom survive. In 1919 the family moved to Geary, Okla. where they settled on a farm northwest of town. Here the family joined the First Mennonite Church of Geary.

A great sorrow came into father's life when in 1934 mother passed away. In 1944 father returned to Kansas where after a few years he entered the Bethel Home where he resided for 18 years till his death.

He leaves to mourn his death, two daughters, Ida, Mrs. McKay Miles, Garden City, Kan. and Alma, Mrs. Clarence Loveless of Hot Springs, N. M.; two sons, Art and family of Geary, Okla. and Herman and family of Ft. Worth, Texas; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service were conducted in Newton on Thursday, Feb. 25, with Rev. Arnold Epp of the First Mennonite Church officiating, and in Geary, Okla. on Friday, Feb. 26, with Rev. Henry Hege of the First Mennonite Church officiating. Burial was in the Geary Cemetery. — The Family.
