AMANDA BULLER WARKENTIN
Our loving wife and mother, Amanda Buller Warkentin, daughter of Abram F. and the late Nettie (Schmidt) Buller, was born at Marion, S. D. May 22, 1921. Here she spent her childhood days and graduated from the Marion High School in 1939. She enrolled at the Freeman Junior College and completed the three year Bible course.
Upon confession of her faith in Jesus Christ, she was baptized on August 6, 1939, by Rev. Alfred P. Waltner. She joined the Bethesda Mennonite Church at Marion. On Jan. 29, 1950, she transferred her membership to the First Mennonite church at Mt. Lake, Minn.
On April 21, 1946, she was united in holy wedlock to Dietrich G. Warkentin. This marriage was blessed with six children, Marlin 10, Elroy 8, Nancy 6, Dennis 4, and Paul, 4 months. A daughter, Carol, preceded her mother in death in 1949 at the age of five weeks.
We will always remember her as a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was an ambitious and energetic worker. She had a happy disposition and a radiant testimony for Christ. We as a family shall cherish the memories of the last few hours before her departure. She called Marlin and Elroy to her bedside, and counselled with them about their spiritual welfare. She assured us that she was going to be with the Lord and she wanted the assurance that we would be re-united in Heaven. Then we had prayer together.
Amanda became ill while visiting her sister, Martha, in California, last January. she was hospitalized at the University Hospital in Minneapolis. The medical staff there diagnosed her illness as leukemia. She spent three months at the University Hospital. Her own personal testimony was that she was drawn closer to the Lord. Her radiant testimony continued even in her illness.
She went to be with the Lord on July 16, 1957. She reached the age of 6 years, one month and 24 days.
She was preceded in death by her mother, her daughter Carol, her sister, Rosella, and her father-in-law. She leaves to mourn her departure her deeply bereaved husband and five children; her father, Abram f. Buller, and step-mother of Marion, S. D.; two sisters, Olga of Marion, S. D., and Martha (Mrs. Lester Vogt), Upland, Calif.; Grandmother Schmidt, Freeman, S. D.; her mother-in-law, Mrs. G. D.
