PHILIP WALTNER

Philip Waltner, son of Peter A. and Lydia Wedel Waltner, was born Oct. 31, 1911. He grew up on a farm near Moundridge, Kan. He attended Moundridge High School and Bethel College.

He was baptized June 12, 1927 and received into the Eden Mennonite Church.

He was married to Elda Mae Goering on Aug. 12, 1938, and together they began a lifetime of farming and dairying on a farm near Moundridge.

An extraordinary amount of time in his busy schedule was devoted to his community, church, and family. He was instrumental in the formulation of such community oriented projects as local cooperatives and dairy organizations and served on numerous boards and committees in this connection.

In the church he was a Sunday school teacher for many years. His humanitarian approach to the interpretation of the Bible was his guide for his life and work. An enthusiastic supporter of the MCC, he helped place trainees from Europe and South America into homes in the Mennonite Community. He also took an active part in project sponsored by the Mennonite Men, such as the project to provide sheep, cattle and horses to help upgrade stock for farmers in Paraguay. He made a trip to help deliver livestock to Paraguay.

He died June 18, 1973 at Wichita, Kansas after several months of illness. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; children, Wayne and wife Roberta, Lila and husband John Bartel, and Galen of the home; two granddaughters; his mother, Mrs. P. A. Waltner; his brothers, Arthur of Raleigh, N. C. and Waldo of Moundridge; sister, Alice Hess of Burns, Edna Nachtigal of Inman, and Della Klassen of Ganado, Ariz.; and his parents-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Ben B. J. Goering.

Funeral services were held June 21 at the Eden Mennonite Church, with Rev. Walter Neufeld and Dr. H. A. Fast officiating.
