PAUL ANDREAS WALLMANN

Paul Andreas Wallman was born Oct. 15, 1901 to Andreas and Maria Wallman in Chortitza, Ukraine. He attended the model school, central school and gymnasium. At 23 he became administrator of Bethania Home for the severely mentally handicapped. He married nurse Katharine Pauls in 1925. In 1929 first son Paul died in Hammerstein, Germany on the way to Canada. They lived in Arnaud, Man. He learned English, and got his high school education and teaching certificate. He taught two years, then contracted tuberculosis and spent 2 years in Ninette Sanitarium. Here he accepted Christ. He was later baptized and joined the MB Church. He had firm convictions that one's life must convey to others that Christ lives in one's heart. He loved the chorale and classical music at Pauls family gatherings each Sunday. He was the life of the crowd. Young adults and children loved his teasing and appreciation for their accomplishments. In 1949 he and his family moved to St. Catharines. He worked as an orderly in General Hospital and then for many years as security guard and in the tool room at Lightning Fastener. He is mourned by his wife; son Herman; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The funeral was June 15 in Grantham MB Church, St. Catharines, with John Hiebert and Aaron Schmidt ministering.
