JACOB H. WALL

“Precious is the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.

It has pleased the Lord to remove from this life and out of our midst our father, Jacob H. Wall. Son of the late Rev. Heinrich and Anna Dick Wall, he was born on Nov. 7, 1866, in Kontenusfeld, South Russia. He departed from this life on Jan. 8, 1959, at Mankato, Minn., reaching the age of 92 years, two months and one day.

In 1875 he emigrated with his parents to America, and the family lived on a farm about one mile northwest of Mountain Lake, Minn. where father grew to manhood.

He realized his need of accepting Jesus Christ as his personel [sic] Savior, and upon confession of faith in Him was baptized at Pentecost in the year 1889 by Rev. Theodore Nickel, and thus became a member of the Bergfelder Church, now known as Gospel Mennonite Church at Mt. Lake, where he remained a faithful member until the end.

On May 29, 1890, he was married to Agatha Buhler and together they made their home on a farm five miles southwest of Mt. Lake. This union was blessed with five children. They shared joys and sorrows for nearly 59 years.

As a father he had great love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was much concerned for their spiritual welfare. He prayed often and his prayers were that they all would be saved. We will miss him but we thank God for his victory in Christ Jesus.

Father was also active in public life. He served on different boards, such as those of the Farmer's Elevator, the Bank, Creamery and School, and also as assessor and town clerk. He was active in church and Sunday school work.

Our parents left the farm in November 1921 and moved to the village of Mt. Lake. After the death of mother on April 17, 1949, father lived alone in his house until Nov. 11, 1950, when he moved into the Eventide Home where he spent the remaining days of his life.

About 15 months ago father's health began to fail. Upon the advice of his physician he was taken to Immanuel Hospital in Mankato for an operation. He was admitted on Dec. 31, 1958, and was operated on Jan. 2, 1959. In spite of all that was done for him he was unable to recover from this shock, and he departed to be with the Lord on Jan.8 at 12:45 a.m.

He leaves to mourn his departure five children: Helena (Mrs. Gerhard T. Nickel), Henry D. Wall, Abram D. Wall, Justina (Mrs. John L. Derksen), and Anna (Mrs. Pete Stoesz Jr.); two sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mother, one son-in-law and five grandchildren preceded him in death. — The Family.
