Head-On Collision Fatal To Three
SERVICES AT INDIANA A. M. CHURCH FOR THREE YOUNG PEOPLE
Montgomery, Ind. — The Amish Mennonite community here was deeply saddened by the fatal accident which claimed the lives of three young people of the Miami Amish Mennonite church. Nine other young people of the same church were injured in the head-on collision of two cars at the top of a hill Sunday evening, Nov. 29.
Funeral services for Elnora Wagler, 18, daughter of Phenas Waglers who was instantly killed in the crash, took place at the Miami A. M. church on Tuesday, Dec. 1. The following Thursday double funeral services were held at the same church for Levi Lengacher, 19, and Amos Lengacher, 17, two oldest sons of Menno Lengachers. Amos died at Union hospital, Terre Haute, on Tuesday afternoon and Levi died at Daviess county hospital Wednesday morning.
Officiating ministers at both funeral services, which were largely attended, were Bishop Ezra Miller, Levi Sommers and Bishop David Bontrager of Middlebury.
Other young people in the accident were Ivan Wagler, Orpha Wagler, Fannie Lengacher, Donold [sic Donald] and Mary Catherine Graber, David Stoll, Raymond and Reuben Graber and Glen Lengacher.
Elnora Wagler is survived by her parents, eight brothers and sisters, and her grandmother, Mrs. Katie Helmuth. The Lengacher boys leave the parents, 10 brothers and sisters, and grandparents, Simon Lengachers and Joseph S. Kemps.
