MRS. HERMAN S. VOTH

Mrs. Herman S. Voth, nee Elizabeth Enz, of Route 2, Newton, Kan., was born March 26, 1889 in Newton, daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth Kliewer Enz.

She attended elementary schools at Newton and the Emmethal [sic Emmental] school near Goessel, Kan. When her mother died she was but 12 years old and after that made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Fast.

She confessed Jesus Christ as her Savior and upon this confession was baptized June 8, 1908 by Rev. H. R. Voth and received into the membership of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, Goessel. She was a faithful active member.

On May 8, 1913 she entered holy marriage with Herman S. Voth, with Rev. P. P. Buller officiating. They took up farming south of Goessel and remained on this farm for their 51 years of married life. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on May 12, 1963.

She was a faithful wife and mother. She devoted time to prayer and reading of the Scriptures. The unfinished quilt in her home speaks of her desire to work and serve. She was preparing it for her granddaughter who is making plans to go out as a missionary.

She had not enjoyed the best of health during the past year, but was able to do her work and also take an extended trip to Oregon with her husband during the past month to visit their children. She was taken to the Bethesda Hospital Sept. 12 and died the following morning, reaching the age of 75 years.

Those remaining to cherish the memory of her life are her husband, Herman S. of Rt. 2, Newton; nine children, Agnes and husband, Ferd Goossen, Rt. 2, Hillsboro, Ella and husband Albert Weinbrenner of Rt. 1, Lehigh, Willard and wife Dorothy of Salem, Ore., Otto and wife Marietta of Rt. 2, Newton, Marvin and wife Linda of Rt. 2, Newton, Ruby and husband Wm. Mastellar [sic Masteller] of Barnard, Kan., Irene and husband Milford Janzen of Newton, Marie and Martha at home; 21 grandchildren, two great grandchildren (five grandchildren preceded her in death); two sisters, Mrs. John Reimer of Goessel and Mrs. William Unruh, Rt. 2, Newton; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Mae Enz, Salem, Ore.
