VERA VOTH

Vera Voth, daughter of George C. and Emma Flickinger Voth, was born at the McPherson county Hospital on February 24, 1927. She received her public school ducation [sic] Elyria, Kansas, where she lived most of her life. Finishing her elementary school training in 12940, she attended McPherson high school, from which she graduated in the spring of 1944.

When she was yet a young girl, she experienced death in the home, and mourned beside the coffin of her father as we mourn beside hers today. It was on Jan. 25, 1935, when her father was called to his Heavenly rest after a long and hard illness.

On December 22, 1940, Vera made an open confession of her faith, and was baptized by the Rev. J. b. Epp and became a member of the Hopefield Mennonite church. Here she retained her membership until her death. Vera took a great interest in church work, and was always willing to serve her Lord. She was especially gifted in singing. She had a lovely voice and a pleasing personality. these talents she was always ready to use for her Lord.

Since organization of the First Mennonite church in McPherson she has taken an active part in the work there. From the beginning she has shown a great interest and has been a great help and inspiration in the work there. She often served in song, or any other way to make the services more inspiring. She will be greatly missed by the church.

On Friday, Nov. 17, she submitted to an appendectomy at the McPherson County Hospital. Here she recovered so much that plans were made to take her back home. She was to be taken home on Sunday, Nov. 26. It was then that she was taken from her bed cheerfully and seemingly all well, and went to the car for the homeward journey. When she reached the car she was overtaken by a sudden illness, and all that medical science could do was done to revive her life. But the Lord had different plans for her and called her to her Heavenly Home. Little did she realize when she left for home that day, that she would so soon arrive at a home more beautiful.

Her death is supposedly due to Pulmonary Embolism. She passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 1944, at 11:52 A.M. She reached the age of 17 years, 9 months, and 2 days.

She was preceded in death by her father. She leaves to mourn her sudden departure her devoted and bereaved mother; one sister Ruby of Elyria,; one brother, George, in the U. S. medical corp in France; and a host of relatives and friends.
