JOHN H. VOTH

John H. Voth, our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was born on Aug. 23, 1880, at Hampton, Neb., the son of Jacob and Ann Neufeldt Voth, he died the morning of Oct. 25, 1967, reaching the age of 87 years, two months and two days.

At the age of 14 he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. He was baptized on Aug. 5, 1884 and received into the fellowship of the Mennonite Brethren Church of Henderson, Neb.

On Feb. 20, 1902 he was married to Tena Sperling. This union was blessed with four children, three daughters and one son.

For fifty years father was a farmer, and also embarked on an occasional business venture. He farmed in Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas until 1944 when he moved to Oregon, where he was employed by the Gerlinger Company.

Father's main interest in life was work for Christ. He felt a call for God's work when he was in his 20's and began instructing himself in the Bible. He became one of the best versed men of his time and as a result of this he served in Sunday school for some 40 years. He was leader of churches in Oklahoma, and also supply pastor for many churches for some 20 years. Upon his retirement, he walked many miles in Dallas making friends and witnessing for his Lord.

He leaves to mourn his departure: his wife, Mrs. Tena Voth of Dallas; son, Abe J. Voth of Dallas; the three daughters, Anna, Mrs. Andrew Nachtigall of Aurora, Neb., Tena, Mrs. Edwin Schroeder of Walport [sic Waldport], Oregon, and Ella, Mrs. Ray Connelly of Salem, Oregon; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were five brothers, one sister, and one grandchild. — The Bereaved Family.
