● Funeral services were held May 26 at Grace Hill Mennonite Church near Whitewater for Jacob "Jake" Voth, 78, of Newton, a retired farmer. He grew up in Whitewater but spent much of his adult life in Buhler and Newton areas. He died May 24 at Bethel Home for the Aged, Newton. Survivors include his wife, the former Tena Enns, of the home; three daughters, Joyce Stuart of Newton, Vera Holmes of Valley Center and Carol Hoffer of Hesston; and three brothers, Peter B., Henry B. and John B., all of Buhler.

JAKE VOTH
Jake Voth was born Dec. 8, 1906, as the fifth child of John and Maria Buller Voth.
He attended grade school near Buhler and graduated from high school in 1926. On June 15, 1924, he was baptized upon confession of faith by P. R. Voth and became a member of the Buhler Mennonite Church.
In his youth he worked at various farming jobs around Buhler. Being a part of a threshing crew was an experience he loved to reminisce about.
On Sept. 22, 1935, he was united in marriage to Tena Enns. Three daughters were born the [sic] them. After living for a short time at Sterling and Lehigh, they settled in the Newton-Whitewater area. They joined the Grace hill Mennonite Church, where he became an active member.
About five years ago he suffered a serious heart attack from which he never fully recovered, though he retained his dry wit throughout his life. His wife cared for him at home until May 13 when he moved to the Bethel Home for Aged where he died May 24, 1985.
He leaves his wife, Tena; three daughters and their husbands, Joyce and Fred Stuart of Newton, Kan., Vera and Charles Holmes of Valley Center, Kan., and Carol and Bruce Hoffer of Hesston, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and three brothers, Pete, John and Henry, all of Buhler.
