HENRY C. VOTH

Henry C. Voth was born on June 22, 1988 to Cornelius and Katharina (Voth) Voth. He received his elementary schooling at the grade school which was later named the Gordon School. He attended the Goessel Preparatory School and later was a student at Bethel Academy, after which he began teaching.

He was baptized on June 7, 1908 by Rev. H. R. Voth and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Church. He remained a member of this church throughout his life. Through the years he participated in a variety of activities in the church. He taught Sunday school until his hearing became too poor to do so. He enjoyed reading.

On May 10, 1922 he married Martha Schmidt. They are the parents of five children: Harold W. and wife Ruth of Rt. 2, Newton; Louise and husband Elton R. Krehbiel, and Katharine and husband Allen J. Moyer, both of Deer Creek, Okla.; Vernon of Hesston; and Weldon and wife Beverly of Newton. They have 12 grandchildren. One grandchild Karl Elton Krehbiel, died at the age of 13.

After teaching school for several years he farmed for many years and in later years continued farming in partnership with his sons and grandson. He operated his combine and completed his wheat harvest a few days before his passing. He was hardly ever sick. He had not been feeling well for over a week, but did not seem seriously ill. He died suddenly the morning of July 7, 1973.

Three brothers, Peter C. of Inman, Cornelius of Rt. 2, Newton, and Abe of Halstead, and one sister, Lena of Rt. 2 Newton, survive him. Two brothers, William and Albert, died in infancy; and one sister, Katharine, Mrs. Cornelius Schmidt, also preceded him in death.
