DAVID J. VOTH

David J. Voth was born near Buhler, Kansas on Nov. 29, 1892, the son of John Voth and Helena Nachtigal Voth. He passed away quietly at 4:45 p. m. on July21, 1956, at Bethel Hospital, Newton, Kansas, reaching the age of 63 years, four months and eight days.

He was united in marriage to Katie Dirks on Nov. 4, 1916, and they shared the joys and sorrows of life together for almost 40 years. He leaves to mourn his departure his devoted wife, Katie; four children, Marvin and his wife Edna, Moundridge, Mildred (Mrs. Donald Carruthers) and her husband Donald of Grandview, Missouri, Ardiena (Mrs. Harlo Regier) and her husband Harlo of Hutchinson, and Leslie of the home. He also leaves four brothers, P. H. Voth, C. H. Voth and Abe Voth of Buhler, and George Voth of Inman; and one sister, Lizzie (Mrs. J. B. Regier) of Buhler; three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and seven grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death was a son, Wilbert, who passed away on June 9, 1950, also three brothers, John, Henry and Jake, and one sister, Lena (Mrs. H. H. Regier).

OnJune15, 1913, he was baptized by Rev. Abraham Ratzlaff and united with the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church. Later he and his wife transferred their membership to the Buhler Mennonite Church, to which he remained a faithful member until his death.

He was taken ill during 1955 and on August 6 of that year went to the Axtell Hospital in Newton for a kidney operation which was successful. He then returned to his home but continued to go back for further treatment. On Nov. 27, he was taken to the Bethel Hospital. At that time he doubted that he would ever return to his home in Buhler. The doctors termed his illness as multiple myoloma [sic], which caused him severe and prolonged suffering which he bore patiently. he survived a serious operation in December but remained in the hospital until he passed away.

A week before his death when the hospital chaplain, Rev. Ewert, consoled him with the thought that we always have a place to look up to, he replied that he was getting closer to that place.
