• Paul J. Voran, 65, who had served as postmaster at Pretty Prairie since 1935, died unexpectedly Feb. 8 after suffering a heart attack. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie, where the funeral was conducted Saturday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. Ben Rahn. Survivors include his widow, the former Hulda Graber; daughters Mrs. Norma Jean Preheim of Freeman, S. D. and Mrs. Florine Eitzen of Lawrence; a son, Myron, of Pretty Prairie; one brother, Carl, of Pretty Prairie; and 10 grandchildren.

PAUL J. VORAN
Paul J. Voran, son of Peter J. and Amelia Kaufman Voran, was born May 21, 1902 in Macksville, Kan.
His father died in 1906 in Edwards County, Kan., where the family had lived for six years. Several years later, his mother was married to Joseph Preheim and the family resided in Kingman and Reno counties. In 1931 his mother died.
On April 11, 1920, he was baptized by Rev. J. B. Epp and served as a faithful and active member of the First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie throughout his life.
After graduation from Castleton High School in 1922, he taught school in Reno County for one year and then attended Fort Hays State College for an additional year.
He was married to Hulda Graber on July 31, 1927.
Following several years in banking, Mr. Voran was appointed as Postmaster of Pretty Prairie in 1935. He served in this capacity until his death.
Mr. Voran leaves to mourn his sudden departure his widow, Hulda; one son, Myron, of Pretty Prairie; two daughters, Norm Jean (Mrs. Marles Preheim) of Freeman, S. D., and Florine (Mrs. Stan Eitzen) of Lawrence, Kan.; one daughter-in-law, Mildred; two sons-in-law; ten grandchildren; one brother, Carl, of Pretty Prairie; and a host of other relatives and friends.
