HIGHWAYS CAUSE TRAGIC LOSSES

Ice and Snow Caused Two Serious Accidents Last Week.

McPherson, Kans., Nov. 19. — A. J. Voran, 57, died at the McPherson County Hospital at 1;00 o'clock this morning from internal injuries he suffered in a threeway highway crash at 6:30 o'clock last night three miles southeast of Moundridge on US 81 while returning from Newton.

Besides internal injuries, both of Voran's legs were broken, his left wrist was fractured and he was badly bruised.

Two Russell men who came along immediately after the accident brought Voran to the McPherson hospital. he is reported to have not lost consciousness until a few hours before he died.

Those who were at the scene of the accident report that the highway was covered for approximately 300 yards with a heavy sheet of ice making normal progress practically impossible. Those persons said there was no warning indicating the presence of the ice.

Mr. and Mrs. Voran had left here at 4:00 o'clock yesterday afternoon to go to Newton where Mrs. Voran's brother is critically ill at the Bethel Hospital. She remained in Newton with her brother and Mr. Voran was returning to McPherson when the accident occurred.

The Voran's moved to McPherson about 10 years ago from Lorraine, kan., where Mr. Voran had taught manual training in the high school for 13 years.

Besides his widow and two sons, Alvin Voran, of the centenary College faculty at Shreveport, La., former voice instructor at McPherson College, and Orville Voran, of McPherson, Mr. Voran is survived by several brothers and sisters living near Kingman. — McPherson Republican.

Mr. Voran was a brother of Rev. C. J. Voran of Kingman, Kansas.
