HENRY G. VON STEEN

Henry G. von Steen the oldest son of Henry G. and Helen (nee Wiebe) von Steen, was born Dec. 10, 1881, near DeWitt, Nebr. In 1904 he moved into the vicinity of Beatrice together with his parents. He received his education in district and parochial schools and later attended business college.

After his spiritual training at home and in Sunday school he desired to be baptized. After further instruction he received baptism on May 22, 1899, from Elder Gerhard Penner and became a member of the First Mennonite church, Beatrice.

On March 11, 1909, he was married to Marie Zimmerman and established his home on the farm where he resided until his death. Into this home was born one daughter, Hildegard.

He took a keen interest in the work of the church and the local Mennonite hospital and more recently in the new church building program.

In the last eight weeks his health failed rapidly. Following surgery at the Immanuel hospital In Omaha, he was transferred to the local Mennonite hospital. Here he appreciated the loving care received from the sisters and nurses. He went to be with his Lord on Nov. 20, 1950, at the age of 63 years.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter and her husband, two grandsons, three sisters, two brothers, many other relatives and friends. Jesus said. “I am the resurrection, and the Life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die:” John 11:25, 26a.
