Pioneer Missionary Dies from Stroke

Hesston, Kan. — Rev. Milton C. Vogt, pioneer missionary to India under the Mennonite Board of Missions of Elkhart, Ind., died from a stroke at Balamuth, Palamau District, Bihar, India, on Friday morning, Jan. 5, according to word received by relatives here.

The funeral was held in India on Saturday, Jan. 6.

Rev. Vogt was born on July 14, 1901 at Moundridge and went to India in 1927. He was engaged in evangelism throughout his 40 years as a missionary.

Survivors include his wife, Esther, of Bihar, India; five children, Dr. Merle Vogt, Philadelphia, Pa., Virgil Vogt, Evanston, Ill., Laverne, Mrs. Eldon Nafziger, Hopedale, Ill., Elva Mae, Mrs. Ronnny Graber, and Myra Jean Vogt, junior at Goshen College, Goshen, Ind.; his stepmother, Mrs. Cora Vogt, Hesston; brothers and sisters, Ralph Vogt, Willard Vogt, Paul Vogt, all of Hesston, Claire, Mrs. Roy Roth of Dayton, Ore., and Helen, Mrs. Reuben Ewy of rural Halstead.

• A memorial service for Rev. Milton C. Vogt, 66, long-time missionary to India, is to be held next Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the Hesston Mennonite Church, with Rev. Peter B. Wiebe and Rev. Edwin Weaver in charge. Rev. Vogt died at Bihar, India on Jan. 5, having suffered a stroke while riding a motorcycle. The funeral was held at Bihar the following day. Following a furlough Rev. and Mrs. Vogt had returned to India in the fall of 1965 for a three-year term. Rev. Vogt's stepmother, Mrs. Cora Vogt, as well as four brothers and one of two sisters reside in the Hesston area.
