— Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Maria Vogt, 75, on Dec. 27 at the Bethesda hospital, Goessel. Funeral services took place Sunday afternoon at the Inman Mennonite church. Mrs. Vogt had been been [sic] living at the home for aged, Inman, located in the property which she formerly owned and donated for use as an old people's home. She leaves three sons, a stepdaughter, and four stepsons.

MARIA FRIESEN VOGT

Maria Friesen Vogt, daughter of Jacob and Anna Pauls Friesen was born Jan. 2, 1875, at their home in Reno county, Kans.

On May 30, 1897, she was baptized by Rev. Buhler and taker into the membership of the Hebron Mennonite church, of which she remained a life-long member.

To her parents she was a faithful daughter always ready to help with the care of her younger brothers and sister during her mother’s lingering illness and after her death.

In June 1907 she was joined in marriage with Henry Vogt. To this union were born three sons making a family of nine children. Her husband preceded her in death 25 years ago, on Dec. 17, 1925. Also preceding her in death was her step-son Herman, who passed away in May 1943. Seven years ago she donated her home in Inman for use as a home for the aged, in memory of her husband.

For Mrs. Vogt the infirmities of old age became more and more evident until she became completely blind in November of 1945. Four months ago it was found that she was suffering from cancer. For a while it seemed she was rallying and she was able to return to the home. After several weeks she broke her hip and was taken to the Bethesda hospital at Goessel, Kans. where she passed away Dec. 23, 1950. Had she lived one more week she would have been 76 years of age.

Surviving her are three sons, Carl of Lynwood, Calif., Waldo of Inglewood, Calif., and Albert of Hutchinson, Kans.: one step-daughter, Lena of Lyons, Kans.; four step-sons, John and Frank of Enid, Okla., King of Protection, Kans., Peter of Canton, Kans.; four grandchildren and 16 step grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Katie Martins, Buhler, Kans.; four brothers. Peter and Jacob of Enid, John of Portland, Ore., and Henry of Chicago, Ill.

Funeral services were held at the Inman Mennonite church on Dec. 31, with Rev. Ben Rahn, Rev. J. E. Kaufman, and Rev. Elbert Koontz officiating. A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. John Reimer, Mrs. George Buller, Eldo Franz and Elmer Wiens sang “Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling” and "Zammeln Wir am Strom Uns Alle” at the church, and ”Safe in the Arms of Jesus” at the cemetery.
