Elderly Moundridge Couple Killed

Moundridge, Kan. — Double funeral services are to be held at the Eden Mennonite Church near here at 10:30 a.m. Friday for Jonas H. Vogt, 77, and his wife, Ida (Stucky) Vogt, 76, who were instantly killed Tuesday morning in a highway accident east of Hutchinson.

The couple were driving west on US-50 when their car skidded on icy pavement near a shelter belt and was hit by an oncoming truck pulling a mobile home. The car was sheared in two.

Services Held For Kansas Couple Who Died in Accident

Moundridge, Kan. — Double funeral services were held at the Eden Mennonite Church near here Friday forenoon, Jan. 21, for Jonas H. and Ida Vogt, 77 and 76 years of age, who were killed in a highway accident on Jan. 18.

The largely attended services were conducted by Rev. Walter Neufeld, the pastor, and Dr. H. A. Fast of North Newton.

The elderly Moundridge couple were traveling toward Hutchinson on US-50 to attend the funeral of a nephew when their car went out of control on an icy stretch of highway and was hit by an oncoming truck pulling a mobile home. Both died at the scene.

A native of Pretty Prairie community, Mr. Vogt was married to Anna Kaufman of Moundridge in 1919. She died in 1960. His survivors include two sons and five daughters and their families.

Mrs. Vogt, the former Ida Goering, was born near here and married Jacob P. Stucky in 1912. He died in 1958, and she married Mr. Vogt in 1962. Her survivors include two sons and three daughters and their families.

JONAS H. VOGT

Jonas H. Vogt, son of John and Anna Graber Vogt, was born on Aug. 28, 1894 at Pretty Prairie, Kan. His twin brother died in infancy.

He received his education near his home in Reno county. His mother passed away while he was quite young. An older sister shared family responsibilities until his father remarried, adding three step-brothers and one step-sister to the home, who are all deceased.

Upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour he was baptized on June 10, 1912 by Elder J. J. Flickinger and was received into the membership of the First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie.

During World War I he served 13 months in the Medical Corps as a noncombatant. Soon after his discharge on Aug. 31, 1919, he was married to Anna Kaufman. They established their home near Moundridge and he transferred his membership on Aug. 5, 1923 to the Hoffnungsfeld-Eden Church, which later became the Eden Church.

To this union were born three sons and five daughters. They shared life's joys and sorrows until Dec. 15, 1960 when his companion was taken in death.

The Lord provided him with another helpmate and on Feb. 23, 1962 he married Ida Stucky. They shared almost 10 years of companionship together, many of which were spent in outdoor activities. On Jan. 18, 1972, on the way to a nephew's funeral, he and his wife were called to their eternal home as the result of an auto accident. He attained the age of 77 years, four months and 21 days.

His interest in the church was shown by his faithful attendance and willingness to serve in various capacities. His congenial and friendly nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He had a genuine concern for his family, with spiritual emphasis being uppermost. He lived to the fullest.

Mourning his sudden departure are Weldon H. and wife Esther of Hesston, Letha and husband Eldo Ediger of Inman, Martin R. and wife Sylvia of Moundridge, Ellen and husband Alfred Stucky of Moundridge, Evelyn and husband Martin H. Goering of McPherson, Margie and husband Darrel Kaufman of Moundridge, Velma and husband James K. Neufeld of Minneapolis, Minn.; five step-children and their families; 21 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Regina Waltner of Moundridge and Mrs. Katie Graber of Freeman, S. D.; one brother, Henry J. of Pretty Prairie; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were one infant son, one infant grandson, and two infant great-granddaughters.
