JOHN J. VOGT

John J. Vogt was born on Jan. 28, 1880, near Marion, S. D., to John and Anna (Graber) Vogt. He was the eldest child in a family of six children. He came to Kansas with his parents; first to Moundridge, later to Pretty Prairie.

He was baptized on confession of faith in Jesus Christ by Elder J. J. Flickinger in April 1897 and united with the First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie.

He was married to Amalia Albrecht on Nov. 1, 1900, in the Pretty Prairie First Mennonite Church with whom he lived until her death on Oct. 29, 1952. They had nine children, all of whom survive him.

He engaged in farming first near Pretty Prairie and later near Valley Center, where he moved in 1939. He continued farming until his retirement in 1946 at which time he moved to Wichita with his wife.

They united with the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church on Oct. 19, 1939, where he remained a member until his death on Oct. 22, 1963.

Survivors include five daughters: Anna (Mrs. Henry Zerger) of Pretty Prairie, Frances (Mrs. Lester Gragg) of Guymon, Okla., Emma (Mrs. Jonas A. Albrecht) of Valley Center, Mary (Mrs. Cleo Schwartz) of Lamar, Colo., and Selma (Mrs. Ray McDaniel) of Wichita; and four sons: Albert Vogt and Lloyd Vogt of Wichita, Fred Vogt of Bartlesville, Okla., and John E. Vogt of Valley Center; also 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

He is survived also by three sisters, Mrs. Mary Flickinger of Moundridge, Mrs. Katie Graber of Freeman, S. D., and Mrs. Regina (Waltner of Moundridge, and two brothers, Jonas Vogt of Moundridge and Henry Vogt of Pretty Prairie.

Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. Paul Goering, in the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church on Oct. 25, 1963.
