CORNELIUS W. VOGT

Cornelius Walter Vogt, son of Cornelius C. and Susanna Warkentin Vogt, was born on Oct. 22, 1894, at Moundridge, Kan. He died on Aug. 1, 1973, of an apparent heart attack during a visit to the family homestead near Corn. He reached the age of 78.

While a young boy, he moved with his parents to Corn. his mother passed away shortly after this, leaving him with additional family responsibility. He received his elementary education at Sparta school and later attended Corn Bible Academy.

At age 17, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior, and was baptized on April 7, 1912 and received into the Mennonite Brethren church in Corn.

He was married to Marie Heidebrecht on July 20, 1919, and this happy union was blessed by five sons. They lived on the farm southwest of Corn until 1952, when they moved to town. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1969.

The cause of Christ was central in his life. He served in a variety of positions in the church, including ushering, serving on the church council, and singing in an octet. He was a board member of the Corn Home for the Aged, and together with mother, they served as night attendants at the Home for five years. His love embraced 10 foster grandchildren through the years.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; five sons, Wesley and wife Stella of Wichita, Kan., Herb and wife Ella of Corn, John and wife Hilda of Sterling, Kan., Robert and wife DeDoris [sic DeLoris] of Fresno, Calif., Gene and wife Carolyn of Fairview; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jacob W. of Hillsboro, Kan., Barney of Fresno, Calif., Abe and Henry of Corn; one sister, Mrs. Anna Martin of Corn; four sisters-in-law, one step grandson, one foster grandson; three step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren. — The C.
