— Funeral services were held at the Hesston Mennonite church Thursday afternoon for Christian A. Vogt, 76, retired farmer of the Hesston community who died at the Bethel Deaconess hospital on Monday. Rev. M. A. Yoder and Rev. Milo Kauffman were in charge of the services. Mr. Vogt was born at Sommerfield [sic Summerfield], Ill. on July 9, 1875. He leaves his wife, the former Cora Wenger; six sons, Milton Vogt, missionary stationed at Bihar, India, Paul, Willard and Ralph of Hesston, Nelson of Newton, and Harvey of Halstead; two daughters, Mrs. Roy Roth of McMinnville, Oregon and Mrs. Reuben Ewy of Hesston; a brother, Pete Vogt of Moundridge, and sister, Mrs. S. S. Baumgarten of Portland, Ore.; and 25 grandchildren.

CHRISTIAN A. VOGT

Christian A. Vogt, son of Jacob and Magdelina Showalter Vogt, was born July 9, 1875, at Sommerfeld [sic Summerfield], Illinois and died at the Bethel Deaconess hospital, Newton, November 5, 1951, at the age of 76 years, three months and 26 days. He had been a patient in the hospital about two and one-half days.

At an early age he moved with his parents to this community. After living on two other farms near here he located on his farm southwest of Hesston in 1918. When he retired in 1935 he moved to town, living here at the time of his death.

He was baptized and joined the Mennonite Church on November 17, 1889. For a number of years he served the Garden Mennonite church as deacon, until 1930 when he transferred his membership to the Hesston Mennonite church where he was a member at the time of his death.

On October 7, 1900, he was united in marriage to Barbara S. Ruth. To them were born eight children, all of whom survive. This union was broken by the death of the mother on March 14, 1928. Later, on November 27, 1929, he was married to Cora Wenger who survives him.

Besides his wife he leaves to mourn his death his children: Milton C., serving as a missionary at Bihar, India; Paul E., Willard M., Ralph L., and Helen, (Mrs. Reuben Ewy) of Hesston; Clara (Mrs. Roy Roth) of McMinnville, Oregon; Nelson A. of Newton; and Harvey C. of Halstead. One brother, P. S. Vogt of Moundridge, and one sister, Mrs. S. S. Baumgarten of Portland, Oregon, from a family of thirteen children survive. He also leaves 25 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Bro. Vogt was a sincere Christian man, a kind husband and a good father. He was always interested in the work of the Church and the community and gave freely of his time and money to both causes. Being a friendly man and having good judgment, many people sought his counsel and advice. He was always ready to help where help was needed.

Funeral services at Hess Memorial Hall were in charge of Milo Kauffman and M. A. Yoder. Burial at the Garden Mennonite cemetery.
