CHIEF JUSTICE VINSON CALLED AWAY IN DEATH
Funeral services for Supreme Court Justice Fred M. Vinson were held Thursday, Sept. 10, at Washington Cathedral in Washington, D. C. two days after the 63-year-old jurist's death from heart attack.
From the Capital City, the body was sent to Vinson's birthplace, Louisia, Ky., for burial in Pinehill cemetery, on a bluff overlooking the farm which was his boyhood home. Vinson, who was the 13th Chief Justice of the United States, rose to the nation's highest judicial position from humble circumstances.
His death gave President Eisenhower his first opportunity to make a supreme court appointment. Newsmen speculated that the job would go to Gov. Warren of California.
