Eugene T. van der Smissen, 63, of Texas City, Texas, died Dec. 7 in Texas City. He was the son of Margaret van der Smissen, Newton. Funeral services were held Dec. 10 at First United Methodist Church, LaMarque, Texas, with Winston Goins officiating. Burial was in Forest Park East Cemetery, League City, Texas. A native of Hutchinson, Kan., van der Smissen was a radiologist and a member of the teaching faculty at the University of Texas. Survivors include his wife, Lorne I.; one daughter, Gayle of Dallas; one son, Craig of League City; one sister, Betty van der Smissen of Bowling Green, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
