SAMUEL T. UNRUH

Samuel T. Unruh, our husband and father, son of Tobias P. and Anna Unruh, was born April 3, 1896, near Galva, Kans.; where he grew to manhood and received his common school education. He departed from this life Oct. 23, 1954, at the Bethseda [sic Bethesda] hospital, Goessel, Kans., reaching the age of 58 years, six months and 18 days. Death was caused by cancel of the lung.

At the age of 16 he felt the call of his Saviour and the conviction of his sinful life. He repented and found remission of sins in the Blood of Jesus Christ and was baptized upon the confession of his faith and added to the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on May 5, 1912, by the late Tobias A. Unruh. In weakness, through trials and sorrows of his Christian life, he endeavored to work out his soul's salvation. Father was deeply interested in reading the Bible and other writings, by which he often realized that Jesus was the Rock upon which he must build.

Nov. 18, 1917, he was united in marriage to Dina Koehn. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for nearly 37 years. This union was blessed with four children, two sons and two daughters.

Father always enjoyed good health and was busily engaged in the carpentry trade until about a year ago when his health began to fail. Medical aid was sought, and many prayers were offered to God for help. Realizing the nature of his ailment, he committed himself to God who gave much grace to endure his intense suffering in patience. Often in his troubles he testified of how he found his Saviour’s presence to be of great comfort, filling his heart with peace and a fervent love to his Saviour and all men. He left us with the full assurance of a hope to be received to Glory.

He leaves to mourn his departure his sorrowing companion, one son, Sylvester, and one daughter, Marian (Mrs. Harvey Jantz), one son-in-law and nine grandchildren, all of Galva, one brother and four sisters. One son, Rexford Lowell, and one daughter, Dorothy Rita, died in infancy. Also his parents, one brother and five sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Oct. 26, 1954, at the Lone Tree Mennonite church. Ministers Frank Unruh and Arverd Wiggers were in charge. Burial was made in Lone Tree cemetery.
