MRS. NETTIE UNRUH

Nettie Unruh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Base, was born April 15, 1887, in McPherson county, Kans. and passed away at the Mercy hospital, Moundridge, on May 17, 1954, at the age of 67 years, one month and two days. Her death was caused by coronary occlusion.

She received her education and grew to womanhood in the Moundridge community, and here she also lived most of her life.

In 1906 she was married to Enoch Unruh, sharing the joys and sorrows of life with him for 47 years, six months and 16 days. To this union 12 children were born.

In 1916, when a Pentecostal revival swept the community, she with many others was converted, and was added to the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on Feb. 6, remaining a faithful member unto the end.

She will long be remembered as a dear mother and faithful companion, and by her Christian zeal and heartfelt concern for the Kingdom as well as for her family. She was a great lover of song and could not long endure to be without witness of the peace of God.

In the early morning hours of May 9, she awakened with a severe pain in her chest. On doctor’s advice she was taken to the hospital, where she soon gained hope for recovery. On the night of May 16, she entered her usual restful sleep, but later it was found to be her peaceful sleep of death. The Lord called her quietly away to her eternal home at 3:45 a.m. May 17.

She leaves to mourn her unexpected departure her sorrowing companion; 10 children, Vivan and Vernie (Mrs. Edwin Becker) of Moundridge, Irene (Mrs. Danny Unruh) and Otis of Galva, Sophia (Mrs. Kermit Becker) of Canton, Glen and Kenneth of McPherson, Dennis of Baltimore, Md., Della (Mrs. Glenn Becker) and Evelyn (Mrs. Robert Seiler) of Halstead; five daughters-in-law, five sons-in-law, 24 grandchildren, three brothers and one sister, and many other relatives and friends. Two children, one grandchild, her parents and one sister preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held the afternoon of May 20 at the Lone-tree Mennonite church near Galva, Kansas. Burial was made in the nearby cemetery.—Father and Children.
