PETER P. UNRUH

Peter P. Unruh, son of Henry Unruh, was born April 6, 1874, at Lawrence, Mass, and departed this life on Feb. 7, 1949, at the age of 74 years 10 months and one day. At an early age he came to McPherson county, Kansas with his parents, and when he was 19 the family moved to Marion county.

In the year 1893 he felt his need of a Savior and was baptized by Rev. John Ratzlaff and became a member of the Alexanderwohl church.

In Marion county he learned to know Lena Jantz, and on Oct 4, 1895, they were united in holy matrimony, making their home near Durham, Kansas. In 1913 they moved to Gray county, near Montezuma, where he resided until his death.

To this union were born 14 children: Lydia, Mrs. Leonard Johnson, Montezuma, Kans.; Jake, Montezuma; Lizzie, deceased in infancy; William of Ingalls, Kans.; Martha, Mrs. Abe L. Smith of Fowler, Kans.; Agnes, Mrs. Elmer Jantz of Lyndon, Kansas; Anna, deceased at age of five months and two days; Elvina, Mrs. Erving D. Koehn, of Wichita, Kans.; Eli, of Fowler; Adina, Mrs. Ernest Unruh, of Montezuma; Clarence of First View, Colo.; Rachel, Mrs. Frank Thomas of Arlington, Kans.; Henry, deceased in infancy; Ervin of Kismet, Kans.

Mr. Unruh helped organize and build the Ebenfeld church and was active in church activities, serving as janitor for 13 years. He was a farmer all his life and was active until he suffered a stroke on Jan. 30, from which he never recovered. During his days of suffering he was brought into closer fellowship with his God, receiving the assurance that he was at peace with God and ready to go. He received real comfort and strength in the old time hymns and in hearing God’s Word read.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, 11 children, 45 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, six brothers, three sisters, and a host of friends and relatives. Preceding him in death were three children, two brothers, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

He was a kind, loving and devoted husband and father. Our home will never be the same. He will be greatly missed by all, but God saw fit to call him home to his heavenly reward.
