— Peter B. Unruh, 74, well-known retired farmer and carpenter of Moundridge, suffered fatal injuries in a fall down the baement stairs at his home Friday morning, Dec. 23. He died that afternoon in Mercy Hospital there. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the West Zion Mennonite Church, of which he was a member, Rev.Harris Waltner officiating.

PETER B. UNRUH

Peter B. Unruh, son of Benjamin and Helna Wedel Unruh, was born on a farm north of Moundridge, Kan. on May 15, 1886. He was united in marriage to Lea Wedel on Jan. 26, 1910 in the Emmanuel Mennonite Church and they shared their life together for nearly 51 years.

He lived on a farm north of Moundridge during most of his life, working as a farmer but also as a carpenter. Eventually he devoted his time entirely to carpentry and became widely known as a precise builder. In 1951 he built his own home in Moundridge where he resided until his death.

Upon the confession of his faith, he was baptized in the Emmanuel Mennonite Church on May 19, 1907. In 1949 he became a member of the West Zion Mennonite Church. He served actively in the church, working as a Sunday school teacher, as a deacon, and a member of the building committee.

He was interested in serving others and active about his work until Friday morning, Dec. 23, when he was fatally injured in an accidental fall at his home. He was committed to the Mercy Hospital where he lingered in a state of unconsciousness, but on the same afternoon his spirit returned unto God. He reached the age of 74 years, seven months and eight days.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Lea, one brother, Herman B. and his wife Esther of Pratt; one sister, Mrs. Frank Rudiger and her husband of Galva; three sisters-in-law, a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Harold, who died in infancy; two sisters, Caroline and Mary (Mrs. Tobe Decker), and two brothers, John and David.

Funeral services were conducted in the West Zion Mennonite Church Moundridge on Monday, Dec. 26. Rev. Harris Waltner officiated at the service.
