NOAH A. UNRUH

Noah A. Unruh, son of Henry P. and Anna, nee Jantz, Unruh, was born June 3, 1883 at Pawnee Rock, Kansas, and passed away January 27, 1953, in the Mercy Hospital, Moundridge, Kansas, having suffered a stroke the evening before. He reached the age of 69 years, seven months and 24 days.

In 1885, he with his parents moved to Marion County, Kansas, where they lived until 1890 when again they moved to various places, finally settling on the farm near Galva, Kansas, on which he was living up to the time of this death.

He was married to Della Wadel of Greensburg, Kansas in 1914. In 1946, he together with his wife felt his lost condition. Upon their confession of faith in Christ as their Saviour, they were baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, to which he remained faithful until death. To this marriage one daughter was born. Della passed away in 1928, leaving him sad and lonely.

In 1930 he was united in marriage to Nina Schmidt of Chickasha, Oklahoma. To this union a daughter was born also. However, in 1933, death again took his companion from his side.

He was joined in marriage to Samantha (Loucks) Johnson of Halstead, Kansas, in 1934. Together they shared the joys and sorrows of life for 19 years.

Father suffered a stroke in 1941, leaving him in a weakened condition from which he never fully recovered, forcing him to retire from active farming.

He often confessed his shortcomings, but was determined by the Grace of God to hold out faithfully until the end. During his years of retirement, he derived much joy in visiting with old time friends and relatives. In later years, due to his failing health, he was greatly concerned about his spiritual walk of life, apparently realizing that his work on earth was nearly done. Although his words were few, several days before passing away he related a beautiful experience, assuring him and the family of his peace with God.

He leaves to mourn his sudden departure his sorrowing companion, two daughters, Mildred (Mrs. John Steiner), Rosalie (Mrs. Wilmer Unruh) both of Galva, Kansas; three step-sons, Newlin Johnson of Goltry, Okla., Perry Johnson of Galva, Kansas, and Warren Johnson of Fredonia, Kansas; two sons-in-law; three step-daughters-in-law; four grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren; four brothers, Simon of Scott City, Kansas; Dick, Sylvanus, and Edward of Galva, Kansas; one sister, Matilda (Mrs. Irvin Decker) also of Galva, besides a host of relatives and friends. His parents, two brothers, one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held January 30, 1953, in the Lonetree Mennonite church near Galva, Kansas, with the Ministers Jonas B. Koehn and F. F. Haynes officiating. Interment was made in the Lonetree Mennonite Cemetery.
