NICK UNRUH

Nick Unruh was born in South Russia on March 6, 1868. As a ten-year- old boy he came to America with his parents. John H. and Mary Unruh. They settled in the vicinity of Hillsboro, Kan., where he grew to manhood.

On Feb. 23, 1899 he was married to Helen Wall, and they made their hymie in Newton, Kan. where he was a drayman for many years. He was a great lover of horses.

In August 1935 they with their family moved to Inglewood, Calif. From there he sent in a number of reports to the Hillsboro “Vorwaertz” [sic Vorwaerts] which were published. He was hard of hearing and therefore could not attend church services regularly but he was fond of reading.

In 1946 they moved to San Jose where he spent the rest of his years. His hearing was getting so bad that it was hard to carry on a conversation with him and also his eyesight was failing. Otherwise he was quite healthy, and would quote Scripture passages and verses from memory. He always enjoyed singing. He was quite active until his 95th birthday when his health began to fail. The last three weeks were spent in the hospital where he died on Oct. 16, 1963.

He leaves to mourn his wife Helen at 46 Pickford Ave., San Jose, Calif.; his children, John and Helene of Mendo Park [sic Menlo Park], Calif., Nellie and Al Terril of Wichita, Calif. [sic Wichita, Kan.], Eleanore and W. D. Orcutt of Saratoga, Calif., and Carl and Ruth Unruh of Phoenix, Oregon; nine grandchildren, his youngest sister, and two sisters-in-law. Of his friends and relatives that he loved and cherished, few are left.
