MERRIEL DEAN UNRUH
October 12, 1951, was another happy day in our little home. On that day another baby boy came into join our happy family, and we named him Merriel Dean.
Merriel was a lively boy, always cheerful and the whole family found much pride and joy in him.
About a week before Christmas, 1954, he came down with tonsilitis [sic] and though we put him under a doctor’s care, he couldn’t seem to recover but gradually grew worse. A few days before he passed away he seemed to be getting better. The fever had left him and he began to take nourishing foods again.
Everyone was in good hopes that he would soon be well.
Friday, December 31, the last day of 1954, he grew worse so we decided to take him to the hospital. Shortly after he was admitted at the hospital, even before the doctor was able to arrive, he died. So it was, at 8:10 Friday night, that he went to be with the Lord, having blessed our home for three short years, two months and 19 days.
He leaves to mourn his early departure, his grieving parents; two sisters, Deloris 10, and Brenda Ann, nine months; two brothers, John Dale, 7, and Aldon [sic Eldon] Gene 5; the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Koehn and Mr. and Mrs. John Unruh, both of this community, also ten uncles, eight aunts, 18 cousins and many relatives and friends.
We will miss him greatly, but we are confident the Lord’s will is best. “The Lord hath given and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the Name of the Lord.”
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Jan. 2, 1955, at the home of John Koenhs [sic Koehn] at 1:30 and at the Greenfield Mennonite church at 2:30, the pastor Rev. Jacob B. Krauhs, officiating.
Burial was made in the church cemetery. — Mr. and Mrs. Herman Unruh.
