HENRY H. UNRUH

Henry H. Unruh, 72, of 169 Henderson Highway, Winnipeg, passed away at his home on December 9. He was a watchmaker by trade and an active worker in the church, serving for many years as deacon in the Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church. The funeral was December 12 in the Elmwood Church with Rev. Wm. Schmidt and Rev. Henry Regehr officiating.

He was born in the village of Reinfeld, Sagradowka, Russia on November 22, 1895, a son of Heinrich and Anna Unruh. At 13 years he moved to Siberia with his parents. There he realized his sinful condition and at the age of 15 he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. During 1917-18 he served in the Russian medical corps. In 1918 he was married to Anna Bergen with whom he was able to share more than 49 years of happy marriage.

In 1925 they fled Russia, moving first to Mexico and, after two years, to Canada. In 1928 they came to Morden, Manitoba, and after 14 years there they moved to ·Winnipeg.

The Lord blessed the family with seven children, two of whom died in infancy. Mr. Unruh was always active in church work, teaching; visiting the sick, the old and the shut-in; and concerned about the welfare of the church. He left behind a vital testimony of his faith in God.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; three daughters, Kae Unruh, Mrs. Walter (Mary) Klassen of Winnipeg, and Mrs. Joe (Ann) Hiebert of Winnipeg; and two sons, Henry of Winnipeg and Peter Bergen of Steinbach.
