• Harrison B. Unruh, 78, who farmed for many years in the Hillsboro community, died Jan. 15 at the home in North Newton. He had been ill since suffering a stroke of paralysis last year. Memorial services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Bethel College Church, with Rev. Esko Loewen officiating. Burial was made in the Johannestal Cemetery near Hillsboro. During the past 15 years' residence at North Newton, Mr. Unruh was employed at Bethel College and he and Mrs. Urnuh also gave periods of service at the Mennonite Home, Frederick, Pa., and at Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart, Ind. Surviving are his widow, Anna, of the home; sons Chester O. of Hillsboro and Allen N. of North Newton; two daughters, Mrs. R. F. Schmidt of Whitewater and Mrs. Willis Esau of Hutchinson; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister.

HARRISON UNRUH

Harrison Unruh, son of Jacob A. and Maria Unruh, was born Aug. 23, 1890 on a farm near Hillsboro, Kan. and died Jan. 15, 1969 at his home in North Newton, having reached the age of 78 years, 4 months and 23 days.

He married Anna Schroeder on June 26, 1915, and they shared life together for more than 53 years. She survives him, with two sons and two daughters: Dorothy and husband Reinhold Schmidt of Whitewater, Chester and wife Berniece of Hillsboro; Allen and wife Esther of North Newton; and Eunice and husband Willis Esau of Hutchinson. One sister, Mrs. Wm. S. Goertzen of Florence, and one brother, Edwin of Warden, Wash., also survive. One sister Ida, Mrs. Jacob G. Bartel, and one brother Ernest preceded him in death.

Upon his confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ he was baptized at the age of 16 by Rev. John Plenert and became a member of the Johannestal Mennonite Church until he transferred his membership to the Bethel College Church 15 years ago.

Before coming to North Newton father was engaged in farming and served the church and community in various activities.

He often reminisced about the time he had charge of the Home for the Aged at Frederick, Pa. from 1952-1954. After a year of enjoyable service they came back and built their home at North Newton and accepted duties with the college. In 1966 he served a term of voluntary service at Mennonite Biblical Seminary where he made many friends.

In September of 1967 father suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered. He maintained a cheerful disposition till his somewhat sudden death. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him and was greatly interested in the welfare of his family, XXXX college and community.

Funeral services were held at the Bethel College Mennonite Church, Jan. 18, with Rev. Esko Loewen and Rev. Victor Sawatzky officiating. Burial was at Hillsboro, Kan.
