• Word has come from Larned, Kan. of the deaths of two western Kansas farmers. Frank G. Unruh, 70, who farmed north of Larned for many years, died last Friday in a motel at Dubuque, Iowa while accompanying a tour group. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Bergthal Mennonite Church, Pawnee Rock. George H. Koehn, 57, died Saturday in the Larned Hospital and funeral services were held Monday at the Salem Mennonite Church near Copeland, Kan. He was formerly of McPherson County.

FRANK G. UNRUH

Frank Grant, son of Peter G. and Nettie Schmidt Unruh, was born July 26, 1964 near Dundee, Kan. where his early childhood was spent. He passed away on Sept. 11, 1964 at Dubuque, Iowa while on a travel tour at the age of 70 years, one month and 15 days.

Realizing his need for a personal Saviour, upon his confession of faith he was baptized as a member of the Bergthal Mennonite Church on Aug. 27, 1916 by Elder Peter H. Dirks. He remained a faithful member to the end.

He was a World War I Veteran, having served 14 months as a cook in the Medical Corps at Fort Riley, Kan. Upon his return from service he was joined in marriage with Carrie Unruh on Oct. 28, 1919. This union was blessed with three daughters.

He was a farmer and continued in that profession until three years ago when he retired.

Frank took a great interest in his garden and yard and spent many hours working with flowers. His grandchildren were a real source of joy to him and he liked to talk to them of their interests.

Frank loved to be among people and together with his wife took a number of tours with groups of people to see places of interest. Of special interest to him was their tour of the Holy Land in 1954. He often talked of “Walking where Jesus walked.” During his illness he found much joy in reading the Scriptures.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.

He leaves to mourn his widow, Carrie; three daughters, Mrs. La Verne Unruh of Larned, Mrs. Leo Schwartz of Burrton, and Mrs. Charles Reece of Rozel; three sons-in-law; two brothers, Allen of Pawnee Rock and Roy of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Dirks of Great Bend and Mrs. Frank Schultz of Pawnee Rock; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 at the home and 2:30 at the Bergthal Mennonite church with Rev. Gary Stenson officiating. Pall bearers were nephews.
